Canaan Rubin creates and executive produces television shows. His passion for entertainment as a child drew him to Hollywood at age 20 where his creativity and technical abilities have since thrived. Rubin is currently creating innovative reality TV programming for a long roster of celebrity personalities, and his enthusiasm for his projects is evident in his hands-on devotion to every show he executive produces.
The creator and executive producer of MTV Network’s hit “Duets”, Rubin is also a 17 year veteran of the #1 rated “Entertainment Tonight” CBS franchise. Rubin served at a senior level as writer, producer, and director for ET as well as on-camera reporter for the shows website ETonline.com. Rubin was instrumental in covering the top stories for ET and has interviewed everyone from Presidents to pop stars, and countless celebrities including Tom Cruise, Madonna, Zac Efron, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Hillary Clinton, Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole Smith, Robert Redford, and Liz Taylor.
Rubin began his career at ET in 1993 as a summer intern in Hollywood and was quickly hired by the show’s Washington DC bureau before he graduated from American University in 1994. Rubin was hand picked by newly hired ET executive producer Linda Bell Blue to join her staff in Los Angeles when ET faced new competition from “Extra” and “Access Hollywood” in 1995/1996. After numerous promotions, Rubin left ET in 2003 to create “Duets”, and ran the show which became an instant ratings win for MTV starring names like Usher, Blink 182, and Vanessa Carlton. Linda Bell Blue hired Rubin back in 2004 to strengthen ET and help launch it’s spin-off CBS franchise “The Insider” hosted by Lara Spencer and Pat O’Brien.
Sensing the craze over reality TV was still red hot, Rubin began to resume his passion for creating new television concepts while juggling his duties at ET, and today Rubin pursues that passion full time. Rubin began signing and developing celebrity talent for new television opportunities after parting from ET on a full time basis in December 2009. Rubin has numerous projects in development now and partnered with industry icon John Ferriter and his team at Octagon in early 2010. Rubin and his long-time producing partner Victoria Recano share numerous projects together and the duo expect to be announcing more projects shortly. Rubin has productions in the works with several top production companies including FOX21, Krasnow Productions, Base Camp Films, and ITV.
Rubin attended both Ithaca College in New York and American University in Washington, DC where he graduated honors with a degree in Film and TV Production. Rubin is an active member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Screen Actors Guild of America (SAG).
Rubin currently divides his time between New York and Los Angeles.
